What Information Do We Collect About Children and Why?
As described in further detail below, we collect some personal information about children so that we can communicate about their entry in the contest.
How Information is Collected. We collect information when a child submits an entry to a contest. A parent or guardian electronic signature on a contest agreement form is required whenever a child submits an entry. No entry is considered complete without a signed agreement.
Information We Collect Directly.
- We collect the year and month of a contestant’s birth to verify their age. In this manner, we ensure that they are eligible for the contest they are entering and determine whether parent information and a signature is required.
- We collect the first and last name of the participant, including children, so that we can credit them if they win a contest.
- An email address is also required with each entry, but it can be the email address of the parent or a designed Point of Contact. It does not have to be the email address of the child. We use this email address as the primary form of communication about the submission and the results of the contest judging.
- For some contests, we may also collect a postal address with each submission to allow us to send physical awards to winners.
- We may also collect additional demographic information (such as race and gender) from children; however, we will not associate this with the child’s name or other personal information, and we use it only to compile aggregate and de-identified information about participants.
