Welcome to Design Your Habitat (DYH) 2.0: What Would Be Your Ideal Community in Space?
We are moving beyond the focus on ideal individual habitats in DYH 1.0 to imagining whole communities in space. Now more people are flying into space, governments and industries are planning to live and work on the Moon, Mars and into deep space; thus a sustainable ecosystem is vital. To have a community in space, in a ship or on a planetary surface, you must design a sustainable ecosystem. What we learn to allow us to survive in space will help us better understand how to live more sustainably on "spaceship Earth.
DYH 2.0 offers live collaborative sessions, virtual exhibitions, and global participation for artists worldwide, showcasing select artworks online and in person. In addition, we are partnering with the Texas Eclipse Festival in April 2024 to help showcase submitted DYH 2.0 artwork!
How will we sustain ourselves and the environment?
This Campaign prompts people to consider the Earth, planets, and what we do (or don’t do) together to create a healthy, sustainable environment. For most of humankind’s history, people acted as if Earth resources were unlimited. More recently, we learned that resources are finite, and we need to conserve and preserve. In space and on other planets, we know that humans cannot survive long term without artificial life support in a sustainable ecosystem and that resources will be limited. As we learn about living in space or on another planet, we can apply that practical information to how we use or reuse our limited resources on Earth.
Join us to celebrate space, science, art, and community. See more details below about how to participate and what to expect!
