Welcome to Design Your Habitat (DYH) 2.0: What Would Be Your Ideal Community in Space?
We are moving beyond the focus on ideal individual habitats in DYH 1.0 to imagining whole communities in space. Now more people are flying into space, governments and industries are planning to live and work on the Moon, Mars and into deep space; thus a sustainable ecosystem is vital. To have a community in space, in a ship or on a planetary surface, you must design a sustainable ecosystem. What we learn to allow us to survive in space will help us better understand how to live more sustainably on "spaceship Earth.
DYH 2.0 offers live collaborative sessions, virtual exhibitions, and global participation for artists worldwide, showcasing select artworks online and in person. In addition, we are partnering with the Texas Eclipse Festival in April 2024 to help showcase submitted DYH 2.0 artwork!
Design Your Habitat 2.0: Habitat Tales
Habitat Tales is a dynamic project within SciArt Exchange's Design Your Habitat (DYH) Campaign, a key theme of the nonprofit's Xpand Your Horizons Program. The first Habitat Tales initiative launched in Mexico City in collaboration with Google, running from September to December 2024. This innovative project engaged 200 middle school students, empowering them to explore the intersection of creativity, research, and technology.
Using the Google CS First platform, students brought their visions to life through art and storytelling, focusing on designing and imagining communities in space. The program fostered critical thinking and skills in research, art, and coding, culminating in student projects that showcased unique stories and artworks inspired by their learning.
