It’s where science meets art in the most captivating way, transporting you to the farthest reaches of the universe without leaving your seat. We’re thrilled to be featured in a publication that makes its way into the hands of individuals, schools, and industry pros worldwide. So buckle up, dive in, and let your curiosity soar as we journey together through the wonders of STEM and beyond! Check out the feature in STEM Magazine (We are on page 10) We are excited to announce the launch of our new Design Your Habitat 2.0 (DYH 2.0) initiative, "Habitat Tales," in collaboration with Google Hola. The project is aimed aimed at teaching Spanish-speaking students how to code with purpose. It brings together several schools and STEAM education programs across Mexico, Google volunteers and SciArt Exchange - opening the doors to the world of coding, science, art, and space. Through this partnership, students will develop essential coding skills, sparking creativity and innovation. The project will then challenge these students to use their coding skills to design art representing sustainable solutions for future space communities, aligning perfectly with our Design Your Habitat 2.0 initiative.
By equipping young minds with coding expertise and fostering a passion for STEAM, "Google Habitat Tales" empowers the next generation of creators to tackle real-world problems both on Earth and beyond. We extend our deepest gratitude to our partners at Google Hola, including Marita Fullinck, and our instructional leader, Javier Montiel, for making this project possible. In a galaxy not so far away, scientists and explorers are working tirelessly to ensure that our adventures in space remain sustainable. Space sustainability is all about making sure we can continue to explore and use outer space without harming the environment or running out of resources. This involves everything from cleaning up space debris to developing new technologies that use resources more efficiently. For example, did you know that NASA is working on projects to recycle and reuse materials in space, just like we do on Earth? This not only helps reduce waste but also makes long-term space missions more feasible.
But space sustainability isn't just about technology—it's also about global cooperation and innovative thinking. Many countries are coming together to create guidelines and treaties to ensure space remains a safe and accessible frontier for everyone. Initiatives like the Space Sustainability Rating, developed by the World Economic Forum, are creating standards for how we should behave in space, encouraging responsible actions among space-faring nations and companies. If you want to dive deeper into the fascinating world of space sustainability, check out NASA's Sustainability in Space page. Also, our Design Your Habitat 2.0 campaign allows you to create your vision of sustainability in space through art submissions! Whether you're a space enthusiast or just curious about our future among the stars, there's a wealth of information and exciting initiatives to discover.
On June 22nd, 2024, the "Design Your Habitat 2.0" webinar series soared to new heights with the incredible Nicole Stott at the helm. This quarterly series, known for bringing together rockstars from the arts, space, and sciences, once again wowed a global audience.
Nicole Stott, the retired astronaut who painted in space (yes, you read that right!), shared her amazing journey of blending space exploration with artistic flair. Stott's stellar career includes a Super Bowl LIV commercial for Girls Who Code, writing the thought-provoking book "Back To Earth," and making history as the first person to paint with watercolor in space during ISS Expedition 21. During the webinar, Stott took us on a creative journey through her Earth Observation and Spacecraft series, which offer jaw-dropping views of our universe and beyond. Her talk was packed with inspiration, showing us how art and science can work together to help protect our planet. If you missed the live event or just want to relive the awesomeness, the recording is now available. Don’t miss out on Nicole Stott's out-of-this-world insights and creativity! The Texas Eclipse Festival recently lit up the Lone Star State with an epic event that left attendees starry-eyed and inspired! Dr. Jancy McPhee took center stage not once, but twice at the "Space Stage." With her captivating talks, Dr. McPhee illuminated the parallels between artistry and scientific innovation, proving that when these worlds collide, magic happens. But the real stars of the show? The artworks themselves! The festival showcased stunning pieces from our very own Design Your Habitat 2.0 campaign, alongside a constellation of art from previous contests and campaigns from across the globe. It was a visual feast that truly transported us to otherworldly realms. Of course, no space celebration would be complete without a visit from our celestial neighbor, the solar eclipse. While weather played its part in canceling some events, and some dusting decided to join the party, Dr. McPhee summed it up best: "Despite the Mars-like dust, the festival was out of this world!" A big shoutout to the organizers for inviting us to be part of this stellar experience. Until the next exciting event, keep reaching for the stars and letting your creativity soar! As we celebrate Earth Day 2024, the theme "Planet vs Plastics" echoes louder than ever, urging us to confront one of the greatest challenges of our time. Plastic pollution has reached staggering levels, threatening the very ecosystems that sustain life on our planet. This year's theme resonates deeply with our own Design Your Habitat 2.0 campaign, where we've explored the critical question: "How will we sustain ourselves and the environment?" It's a question that strikes at the heart of our collective responsibility to nurture and protect our planet. For much of human history, we've treated Earth's resources as limitless, but we've come to realize that they're finite and precious. Similarly, as we contemplate the possibility of living on other planets or in space, we understand the vital importance of creating sustainable ecosystems and conserving resources. The parallels between our campaign's themes and the Earth Day 2024 message are undeniable. Just as we must strive to sustain ourselves and our environment in space, we must also do so here on Earth. The choices we make today will determine the health and vitality of our planet for generations to come. As we commemorate Earth Day, let's renew our commitment to reducing plastic waste, conserving resources, and building a more sustainable future. Together, we can turn the tide against plastic pollution and ensure a healthier, more vibrant planet for all. |
